Jules Chadel French, (1870 - 1942) menu with duck illustration, c. 1925 color woodcut Pencil signed and stamped. Provenance: Purchased from Thomas French Fine Art, Fairlawn, OH, March, 1999. From the private collection of Bret Waller and Mary Lou Dooley Waller, Indianapolis, Indiana. Chadel was a member of ‘Les Amis de l'Art japonais" (Friends of Japanese art) society, which met monthly between 1895 and 1914. He is best known for his color woodcuts done in imitation of Japanese sources. He also designed menus and invitations for the friends of Japanese Art Meetings.
