JACQUES BEURDELEY (FRENCH 1874-1954) Cottage in a wooded landscape signed and numbered 12/75 (lower left) signed within the plate and in pencil (lower right) etching 28 x 39 cm (sheet) The painter and etcher Jacques Beurdeley was born in Paris. His father was an influential politician who numbered Puvis de Chavannes and Whistler among his friends. Beurdeley studied under Fernand Cormon at L'Ecole des Beaux-Arts, to whose studio Toulouse-Lautrec was a frequent visitor. Beurdeley studied printmaking with Eugène Carrière and with Auguste Delâtre, who taught him etching techniques. Upon his return from studies in London and on the continent, he turned to the depiction of the french landscape in its many incarnations.
