Rare Partially Hand Written Presentation Titled: THE FIRST GRAND ATTACK UPON FLUSHING BY THE BRITISH FORCES | A British military hand-colored engraving published: London: Laurie & Whittle, November 9, 1809 - showing "A View of the Ships Entering the Town" | Hand-writing "Presented to Master George Wales as a testimony of respect by his instructor" - March 15, 1819 | Center has a handwritten "Address to the Young" | Includes numerous hand-colored illustrations. The attack upon Flushing, a city on the south coast of Walcheren occurred during the Napoleonic Wars, and was an attempt by the British to capture the French fleet. However, by the time the force had landed, the Austrians had been defeated and were negotiating a peace treaty with Napoleon. Although the British had captured Flushing, the French had moved their fleet to Antwerp, thus denying the British any chance of destroying it.
