The 'Saints connected with the house of Habsburg' were to form part of the 'Fürstliche Chronik' or 'Geburtsspiegel', an account of the ancestry of Emperor Maximilian I. Responsible for the project was Jacob Mennel (c.1470-1526), not Sebastian Brant as previously assumed. The project was abandoned after Maximilian's death. On auction woodcut from the 1799 edition after discovery of the almost unused blocks. Bartsch did attribute them to Hans Burkmair the elder.
