An intimate scene by the world-renowned Czech painter, printmaker and illustrator Alfréd Justitz. A member of the Mánes Union of Fine Artists, he was one of the founders of Czech modern painting. He exhibited with the Tvrdošíjní (“Stubborn Ones”) art group and also lived and worked in Germany and Paris. He attended the Czech Technical University in Prague, and in 1900–1905 he studied under Maxmilián Pirner and František Thiele at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague.
