작품 상세

A rare find, this is an outstanding, dramatic etching by noted Ukrainian-American artist Olexander Kaniuka (1910-2000). Framed, it is signed and numbered 1/35! Inverso is also his signature, address and phone number written in his own hand. Kaniuka was a noted artist and graphic artist in the Ukraine during the Soviet occupation and Ukraine's struggle for independence. Kaniuka was imprisoned from 1931-33. Much of Kaniuka's work features scenes from the Ukrainian resistance to Soviet occupation and the subsequent Holodomor (famine/genocide) perpetrated by the Stalinist regime, leading to the death of thousands of Ukrainians. Kaniuka emigrated to the U.S. in the 1950s where he worked as an artist and graphic artist. Kaniuka's work is in the University of Minnesota and the Ukrainian Museum in Detroit.
