George Gay was the only survivor of the attack on the Japanese Fleet at Midway by Torpedo Squadron Eight. Gay was severely wounded and spent 30 hours in enemy infested water before being rescued. He was awarded the U.S. Navy's highest honor, the Navy Cross.
