Copperplate engraving on paper Germany, Dresden, 1773 After Allart van Everdingen (1621-1675) – Dutch painter Dimensions: 38 x 35.5 cm Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 300 EUR This work was made by Gottlieb Willk Weise in Dresden in 1773. It is based on a painting by the Dutch painter Allart van Everdingen. The engraving shows a bleak landscape crossed by a raging torrent. Below the image there is an excerpt from the famous poem “The Alps” by the Swiss anatomist and literary critic Albrecht von Haller. The print is in a fair condition according to its age. There is material loss around the edges as well as disolouration and foxing. On the right hand sight the sheet is lacerated (2,5cm) in the middle. On the back some parts are reinforced with a layer of paper. The overall dimensions are 38 x 35.5 cm Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
