It shows a group of visitors in the Parisian street cafe ‘Ambulant’ while tasting a French specialty. The work is characterized by originality and technical perfection. The sheet shows the present title in the lower center, ‘Le Café Ambulant’, as well as the inscription ‘Desine et Gravé par Debucourt 1821’. Lower left it reads ‘à Paris chez l'Auteur, Boulevard St. Denis, N ° 3’, and lower right it is inscribed ‘Déposé à la Direction’. The sheet is mounted under glass to the left side and framed in a gilt wooden frame. The paper shows light wear, and the frame has minimal signs of use. The overall dimensions, with frame, are 33 x 41.4 cm. The sheet dimensions are 31.5 x 40 cm. Philibert-Louis Debucourt (1755-1832) Philibert-Louis Debucourt was born in 1755 in Paris. He is especially known for his genre paintings. He was a student of Joseph-Marie Vien and studied at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture. Since 1785, he has also worked as an etcher. After the French Revolution, he collaborated with the ‘Journal des Dames et des Modes’. He also created etchings for the publisher Didot, including the illustrations for ‘Héro et Léandre’ written by Quérelles.
