It depicts a female figure in front of the Gavrenkapetanović house in Pocitelj, where from 1961 lived a artists group. In his poetic works Berber often combines printmaking processes with painting and drawing techniques. Thus, the present color woodcut is completed with oil paint and gold foil to create the impression of a complex collage. The work is signed, titled and dated upper right 'Berber Mersad / Pocitelj 1964'. It is in good condition with some minimal surface abrasions. The frame shows slight signs of wear. The framed work measures 112 x 82 cm, the sheet size is 104.5 x 74.3 cm, the image size is 90 x 62 cm. Mersad Berber (1940-2012) Mersad Berber studied at the Academy of Arts in Ljubljana and held a teaching position at the Academy in Sarajevo from in 1878. Addition to paintings, he created a comprehensive printed oeuvre and also worked as a stage designer. Berber's work is characterized by a combination of various techniques and motifs taken from Renaissance and antique imagery, which he interprets in a contemporary fashion. From 1992 the artist lived and worked in Zagreb and Dubrovnik. During his career he has been honored with numerous awards. Mersad Berber's work has been exhibited in London, Hamburg, Istanbul, Chicago, Abu Dhabi, Moscow, Madrid, Zurich and New York. In 2009 a retrospective was dedicated to him in Barcelona.
