The current highest auction record for a similar painting by LA II is more than €9,000 In his graffiti works, LA II (Angel Ortiz) (born 1967), who collaborated with Keith Haring in the 1980s, reached back to a tradition, that had emerged in the United States in the 1960s. While Haring was inspired by Angel Ortiz' spraying technique, the influence of Haring's symbolist, partly comic-like imagery with a dense net of lines and characters are evident in Ortiz 'works. LA II's present acrylic painting entitled 'Dollar' shows a dollar bill in the center of the composition - the economic symbol of the United States -, on which are pointed four arrows. The painting bears the artist's signet on the reverse. It is in very good condition, showing minor wear to the frame. The image dimensions are 46 x 61 cm, and the frame measures 53 x 68 cm. LA II (Angel Ortiz) (geb. 1967) The Puerto Rican-born graffiti artist Angel Ortiz, known by the artist name LA II, was noticed in the early 1980s by Keith Haring due to his graffitis in the Lower East Side. When he asked him to work with him, Ortiz left the High School and presented collaborative works along with Haring for the first time in 1982 in the New York gallery Tony Shafrazi. From him, Haring learned, among other things, dealing with the spray paint. Today, works by LA II can be found in museums around the world and are on display in international galleries.
