One of the Founders of the Conceptual Art Movement in the 1970s, Mel Bochner has always been interested in systems involving language or numbers. He has now found a new audience with his brightly colored paintings with provocative language taken from popular culture. As such he has been identified as one of the "Neo-Pop" artists, such as Jeff Koons, who have reinterpreted the Pop iconography for the 21st century. This etching and aquatint was executed in 2014 and is signed, dated and numbered in pencil with full margins. The piece is in excellent condition considering it is fresh off the press. Mel Bochner (AMERICAN, 1940) Bochner was born in 1940 in Pittsburgh and has been involved in art since high school. He attended Carnegie Mellon University and graduated in 1962. In 1964 he moved to New York and quickly defined the Conceptual Art movement. His first exhibition in 1966 is labeled as one of the defining moments of the movement. Bochner was concerned with the concept of the artwork, not simply the content. In the 1970's Bochner moved to painting and used unconventional materials, such as the gallery walls. He is considered one of the pioneers of the Conceptual Art movement. His works can be found in the Museum of Modern Art.
