Each aquatint, except one, depicts a person juxtaposed to another person. Each aquatint is divided into two sides and each side is of only one color. Some of the aquatints also depict smaller images caught in between the different colored sides. The only aquatint of the set that does not depict two juxtaposed people shows a background image of multiple people and five small square images placed on top. Each of the five small squares is a different color than the background. The same colors appear throughout the series, but one of the images on individual aquatints uses the same color. All items of the series are in overall good condition. There are only seven of the nine original aquatints, however. Each is signed and dated in pencil in the lower right hand corner. Each is also marked with the print number, 33/60, in pencil in the lower left hand corner. All seven have the same dimensions: 23 3/4 x 36 1/4 inches. David Salle (AMERICAN, 1952) Salle was born in Norman, Oklahoma and earned a B.A. and MFA from the California Institute for the Arts. Salle's signature technique became the juxtaposition of seemingly random images. In addition to making art, Salle also wrote extensively about art and currently has a column in Town and Country Magazine. His works can be found in the Museum of Contemporary Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
