Dialogue of Cultures', shows a reference to the large video installations by the artist. The portfolio was published in Hanover on occasion of the World Exhibition EXPO 2000. It comprised 13 works by various international artists and was published under the patronage of Nelson Mandela. The lithograph in colors is signed and dated lower right in pencil 'Paik 00', and numbered lower left in pencil '35/100'. The sheet is in very good condition. The image measures 36.2 x 58.2 cm, the sheet 58 x 76.5 cm. Nam June Paik (1932-2006) The artist was born in Seoul and fled with his family in 1950 to Japan, where he studied from 1952 to 1956 history of music and art and philosophy. He then went to Munich and continued his musicology studies at the university there. At the Freiburg Music Academy, he also studied composition. He collaborated with the composer Karlheinz Stockhausen and was, inspired by John Cage, involved in Fluxus performances. In the 1960s Paik began to work with manipulated televisions. Later, he developed his well-known large installations of many monitors on which ran edited video tapes. Paik's work has been internationally shown in many exhibitions, including documenta 8 in Kassel and the Venice Biennale in 1993. Nam June Paik received among others the Will-Grohmann-Award, the Kaiserring of Goslar and the Picasso- Medal of UNESCO.
