The portfolio 'Plots on Loan' was created by the US-American artist Raymond Pettibon. It dates to the year 2001 and was printed by Derriere l'Ettoile Studios, New York and published by Brooke Alexander Editions, New York and David Zwirner, New York in an edition of 250 and 50 artist proofs. It comprises 70 lithographs in colors on Sommerset laid paper with illustrations and text by the artist. The lithographs span the rich variety of Pettibon's creativity. The typical subjects of the artist, like domestic themes, the surfer, religion, space ships, trains and esoteric writing can be found in the portfolio. The portfolio is numbered and signed on the last page in pencil '18/250 Raymond Pettibon'. The work is in good condition, the binding is slightly soiled and shows some fingermarks. The lower corners of the binding are slightly bumped. The prints inside are all in very good condition. The sheets are each 48.5 x 35.9 cm in size and the total dimensions, including the binding, are 49.3 x 37.5 cm. Raymond Pettibon (b. 1957) Raymond Pettibon studied at the University of California in Los Angeles. The artist became famous for his designs for the record covers of the groups Black Flag, Firehose and Sonic Youth. In 2002, he took part in the documenta 11 in Kassel. The Museu d'Art Contemporani de Barcelona organized an exhibition of his drawings, called 'Plots Laid Thick', which also travelled to the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery and the Haags Gemeentemuseum in the Netherlands. Retrospectives of his works have been held at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Santa Monica Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles. In 2004, he was awarded the Bucksbaum Award of the Whitney Biennial and in 2010 the Oskar-Kokoschka-Prize of the Austrian Federal Government.
