Depicted is a self-portrait of the artist Martin Kippenberger. Kippenberger liked to stage himself in self-ironic and provoking self-portraits, here given is a more sensitive and turned inward self-portrait in muted shades, which is rare for the artist. He is depicted with a widened torso looking to the left. The figure is placed in front of an object with many drawers looking like a cupboard. The figure and the cupboard are executed in brown lines. The background, as well as the trousers that Kippenberger is wearing, are colored in blue. The work bears the stamp of the estate Martin Kippenberger as a die stamp lower right and it is numbered lower left in pencil '14/24'. The sheet is verso at the upper edge and in the upper third on the sides mounted on cardboard (reversible) and framed. The print is in very good condition with minimal handling creases and the frame displays normal traces of use. The plate is 75.5 x 63 cm in size, the sheet 96 x 74 cm and the total dimensions, including the frame, are 105 x 81 cm. Martin Kippenberger (1953-1997) The work of the German artist Martin Kippenberger is shaped by his extreme positions in diverse styles and media, and a provocative public person. Kippenberger was named the enfant terrible of his generation. He graduated from The University of Fine Arts of Hamburg, where he was inspired amongst others by Sigmar Polke. Kippenberger's refusal to adapt to a specific style resulted in an extremely prolific and diverse work, which includes sculptures, paintings, works on paper, photographs, installations and prints.
