It is the print number 27 from a limited edition of 30 copies. Under the influences of Art Brut, Informel and Abstract Expressionism the work of Georg Baselitz is characterized by Expressionist features and abstract depictions. Accordingly, also this piece is a characteristic work of the artist. The drypoint in black depicts under a grid of lines - obviously the cage - an oval shaped form. The drypoint etching by Georg Baselitz is signed and dated lower right in pencil 'Baselitz 88' and numbered '27/30' lower left. The etching is in very good condition. The plate is 45.2 x 33 cm in size and the dimensions of the sheet are 66 x 50 cm. Georg Baselitz (born 1938) Georg Baselitz, actually Hans-Georg Kern, was born in Upper Lusatia. In 1956 he began to study painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in East Berlin. After being expelled he continued his studies in West Berlin, where he studied the theories of Kandinsky, Malevich and Nay and became interested in the art of the 'mentally ill'. In 1961 he adopted the pseudonym Georg Baselitz. In 1970 the first exhibition with exclusively 'inverted' paintings took place in a gallery in Cologne. With his frequently provocative works Baselitz played significant role in shaping modern painting. In 1977 he accepted a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, in the 80s and 90s he taught at the University of Arts in Berlin. His works are in the collection of the Guggenheim Museum and MoMA in New York, the Tate Gallery in London, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and the Berlinische Galerie as well as the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin. Es handelt sich um das Exemplar Nummer 27 einer limitierten Auflage von 30 Stück. Unter den Einflüssen der Art Brut, der Art Informel und des abstrakten Expressionismus ist das Schaffen von Georg Baselitz von expressionistischen Zügen und abstrakter Darstellung gezeichnet. So liegt auch hier ein charakteristisches Werk des Künstlers vor. In der Kaltnadelradierung ist unter einem Raster aus Linien - wohl der Käfig - eine oval anmutende Form zu erkennen. Die Kaltnadelradierung von Georg Baselitz ist unten rechts mit Bleistift signiert und datiert „Baselitz 88" sowie unten links nummeriert „27/30". Der Druck ist in sehr gutem Zustand. Der Plattenrand misst 45,2 x 33 cm und die Blattmaße betragen 66 x 50 cm. Georg Baselitz (geb. 1938) Geboren wurde Georg Baselitz, eigentlich Hans-Georg Kern, 1938 in der Oberlausitz. 1956 begann er ein Studium der Malerei an der Hochschule für bildende Künste in Ost-Berlin, wurde jedoch bald der Schule verwiesen. Baselitz setzte sein Studium in West-Berlin fort, wo er sich mit den Theorien von Kandinsky, Nay und Malewitsch auseinandersetzte und sich für die Kunst von „Geisteskranken" interessierte. 1961 nahm er den Künstlernamen Georg Baselitz an. 1970 fand in einer Kölner Galerie die erste Ausstellung mit ausschließlich „kopfstehenden" Bildern statt. Mit seinen oft provokativen Werken prägte Baselitz die moderne Malerei nachhaltig. 1977 nahm er eine Professur an der Staatlichen Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe an, in den 1980er und 90er Jahren lehrte er an der Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Seine Werke befinden sich u.a. im Guggenheim Museum und im MoMA in New York, in der Tate Gallery in London, im Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam sowie in der Berlinischen Galerie und im Hamburger Bahnhof.
