작품 상세
WEIMER PURSELL (1906-1974) AMERICAN AIRLINES / TO NEW YORK. 1956. 40x29 3/4 inches, 40 1/2x75 1/2 cm. Condition B+: tears at edges; abrasions along sharp horizontal fold; creases in margins; punch holes in top margin. Paper. Abstracted skyscrapers, shop windows, traffic-filled streets and the hustle-and-bustle of New York City life are all represented in this high energy street scene - exemplary of classic American graphic Modernism. Pursell designed several highly-regarded posters for the 1933 Chicago World's Fair, as well as World War II propaganda posters (most memorably, "When You Ride Alone You Ride With Hitler!") and an image for Winchester Rifles. This figurative representation is reminiscent, in color and style, of Erik Nitsche's 1947 poster, Say It Fast . . . Often . . . In Color / Subway Posters. Airways p. 119.
