This image was created by the artist Howard Koslow in 1963 to promote tourist travel to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. With the growth of the economies in the Western world in the early 60's tourism was rapidly expanding and Rio along with many sister cities in South America were vying for the tourist traffic. In this night scene we view Sugarloaf Mountain (Portuguese: Pão de Açúcar) situated in Rio de Janeiro at the mouth of Guanabara Bay on a peninsula that juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. Rising 396 meters (1,299 ft) above the harbor, its name is said to refer to its resemblance to the traditional shape of concentrated refined loaf sugar. It is known worldwide for its cableway and panoramic views of the city. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
