RAYMOND SAVIGNAC (1907-2002) MA COLLE. Gouache maquette. Circa 1951. 34 1/4x44 1/2 inches, 87x113 cm. Condition B: tears at edges, some affecting image; creases, abrasions and staining in image; pin holes at edges; metal grommets in corners. This funny, striking image, with flat colors and bold outlining, is an archetypal demonstration of Savignac's flair for design and humor. No text is needed to help the viewer understand that this glue must be very strong. This maquette has appeared several times in print, including in Graphis magazine #39/44, in 1952, and also in the Biblotheque Forney's catalogue of Savignac's work in 2001 (p. 372), however to the best of our knowledge it was never published.
