작품 상세

HERBERT LEUPIN (1916-1999) BELL. 1965. 50x35 1/2 inches, 127x90 1/4 cm. Hug & Sohne, Zurich. Condition A-: minor restoration at edges; creases and abrasions in image. Leupin was one of the most prolific Swiss poster artists in the post-war years. His work, largely based around visual gags, is often compared to that of Raymond Savignac, although, in fact, he was much more versatile in his style than his French counterpart. Leupin studied in Basel and worked with Paul Colin in Paris before he opened his own studio in 1939. One of his first clients was Bell, for whom he designed an image in the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Realism) style, showing slices of meat on a wooden cutting board. This image, created 25 years later, is drastically different, with a streamlined, minimalist design. 50 Ans Affiches Suisses p. 183.
