Carte De Visite Album Hudson Family Carte De Visite album, a number of pages decorated with shipping painting prints by Charles Edward Hern (1848-1894), an English watercolour artist who lived and painted in Australia from 1873, until returning to England. Portraits mainly of the Hudson family, relatives and friends of Yorkshire by various photographers, including: Ramsden, Southwell, Silvy, J.Milner of Ilkley, Sarony of Leeds and Scarborough, Moira and Haigh, Lock and Whitfield, Jabez Hughes and Berne Bellecour marked "Helios". Bellecour was a painter and illustrator from Paris, his business name was Helios. Notables include a man in Sultan's dress by Wormald of Leeds, Capt. W.A.Roberts in Royal Horse Artillery dress by Werner of Dublin and a striking portrait by Jabez Hughes of the Isle of Wight showing a man in Eastern European attire, beautifully hand tinted. Album contains 48 cdvs and 19 cabinet cards, including 2 outdoor showing horses and carriages. Some cdvs are very neatly inscribed with names of people on the image. Brown leather covered with nice tooling, gilt edged pages, brass initials, MH, and clasp. Very good quality images in fine condition. Album is complete, clean and tight. Slight fading to leather on spine.
