Valdis Celms (1943), Behind - World Space IA., 1969. negative film. Soviet modernism. Authorised archival digital pigment print of 1969 negative film, 2019. Edition 1/10. 30 x 40 cm ( sheet 32 x 45 cm). Authorised and signed on verso. In his work series Behind - World Space (1969) Valdis Celms used raster films with different evenly arranged dots and lines. Rasters were placed in a custom built rotary construction with a mirror to create effects of optical illusion. The moving images were photographed and stored. During the creation process the artist consulted the latest Soviet and Western literature on psychology, neurosciences, optometry and theories.
