Gelatin silver print on baryta paper Netherlands 1994 Rineke Dijkstra (b. 1959) - Dutch photo and video artist Signed and dated in pencil on the reverse, ‘Rineke Dijkstra / April` 94’ on the reverse; moreover, photographer’s studio stamp in Amsterdam Dimensions: 40.2 x 30.5 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, The Netherlands (acquired directly from artist) Portrait of the Dutch illustrator and artist Sieb Posthuma (1960-2014), holding his fox terrier in his arms, whose adventures he illustrated in the famous children's book series 'Rintje' For her portraits, Dijkstra uses a 4’-5’ camera with a standard lens and a tripod. Most of the sitters are portrayed in the central view and with direct view into the camera. The background always remains reduced and neutral so that the focus remains on the sitter, which becomes a sort of icon of himself. Dijkstra’s is particularly interested in capturing an authentic moment, in which the portrayed reveals his true nature. Condition: The photograph is in good condition. The paper is a bit wavy due to the manufacturing process. The sheet has been cut irregularly. There is a small yellow discoloration to the lower right. The dimensions are 40.2 x 30.5 cm. Rineke Dijkstra (b. 1959) Rineke Dijkstra studied at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam from 1981 to 1986. Afterwards she worked as a freelance photographer for fashion magazines and a business magazine. Artistic dissatisfied with the photo experienced self-presentation of the models and the sitters, she searched for naturalness and authenticity. Thus she began to photograph children and young people in bathing suits on the beach that brought her international attention in the early 1990s. Dijkstra works in conceptual series and documents her models often over several years. Her photographs and videos have been shown in numerous international exhibitions.
