In ‘Karelia, Miracles & Co’ the artist has spawned superstition, cults and religious rites, which are still the roots of confrontations and religious fanaticism in the globalized world of today. Condition: The print is in very good condition with only a few and very faint handling marks. The photograph is matted. The image dimensions are 56.5 x 80 cm, the sheet measures 67 x 90 cm and the frame 83 x 105 cm. Joan Fontcuberta (b. 1955) The Catalan artist Joan Fontcuberta studied Communication Sciences at the UAB-Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona until 1977. He then worked in the advertising field. From 1979 to 1986 he was also active as a professor at the UB-Universidad de Barcelona. Since 1980 he has additionally been the co-founder and publisher of the Anglo-Spanish magazine ‘PhotoVision’. Other teaching activities led the artist to the UPF-Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona and to the Harvard University in 2003. Fontcuberta was honored with numerous awards, including the Hasselblad International Award in Photography and the David Octavius Hill Medal. Examples of his artistic output can be found at the Folkwang Museum in Essen, the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in Paris and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
