Although he was active in both fields, his true passion was always devoted to photography. The picture presented here was created in 1940 and shows the liner 'AMPALA' on the East River in New York. The ship is accompanied by tugs that may have served for the forthcoming landing. Andreas Feininger (1906 - 1999) The American photographer Andreas Feininger was born in 1906 in Paris as the son of the famous painter Lyonel Feininger. After he had studied architecture, Andreas Feininger worked in bureaus of architects such as Le Corbusier, before he began his career as an independent photographer. Feininger's well-known images, above all depictions of the New York skyline gained international acclaim and are classical pieces in the history of photography. Andreas Feininger published over 50 teaching- and picture-books, most of which are translated into many different languages and which are standard references at international Academies.
