The recognition of the German photo artist was based on family portraits and large-format black and white photographs of Dusseldorf and New York in the 1970s. This photograph, titled 'Jiangxi Zhong Lu' was created in 1996 in Shanghai. Deep road building lines and a distant color palette are characteristics of Struth's photography. The photograph is verso signed, numbered, dated and inscribed in pencil 'Jiangxi Zhong Lu Shanghai 1996, 49/60 Thomas Struth Print 1997'. The photograph is stored inside a folder, which is inscribed 'Thomas Struth Edition for Parkett No. 50/51'. The photograph is in very good condition. The depiction measures 36.7 x 46 cm and the dimensions of the sheet are 40.5 x 50.7 cm. Thomas Struth (b. 1954) Thomas Struth began his artistic education at the Academy of Dusseldorf, where he attended the painting class of Gerhard Richter starting from 1974. In 1976, he took part together with Candida Höfer in the first photography class of Bernd and Hilla Becher. Their documentary images of industrial landscapes had a strong influence on Struth's later methodology. In the 1980s, he studied family portraits together with the psychoanalyst Ingo Hartmann. Struth thereby developed an interest in renaissance painting that eventually led to his photo series 'Museum Photographs' that established his international recognition. In 1993, he was called as a professor to the Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe. Struth currently lives and works in Berlin and New York.
