Vintage gelatin silver print on Agfa paper Germany, around 1960 Peter Brüchmann (b. 1932) - German Photographer Signed in pencil 'Peter Brüchmann' and stamped with artist's copyright stamp on verso Sheet size: 22.5 x 29.6 cm Provenance: Private Collection, Hamburg Charming portrait of the Italian publisher and revolutionary alongside his German wife, the photographer Inge Schönthal This photograph was taken by German photographer Peter Brüchmann. Shown is the Italian publisher, politician and revolutionary Gianciacomo Feltrinelli with his first wife, Inge Schonthal, who was a very successful model and photographer. Feltrinelli comes from one of the wealthiest families in Italy. In 1954 he founded the Feltrinelli publishing house in Milan that became world famous, among other things with the publication of 'Doctor Zhivago'. Feltrinelli was a sympathizer of Che Guevara and became interested more and more in various revolutionary movements, also in Germany, where he was friends with Rudi Dutschke. This print is verso signed in pencil and stamped. The photograph is mounted with photo corners under a mat. The outer edge is lightly curled, the edges show slight signs of wear, the surface minimal abrasions. The sheet measures 22.5 x 29.6 cm. The framed dimensions are 60 x 50 cm. Peter Brüchmann (b. 1932) Born in Berlin, Peter Brüchmann trained to be a photographer with the fashion and portrait photographer Lotte Söhring and subsequently completed a traineeship at the German press agency dpa. In the 1950s and 1960s he worked for well-known magazines, such as 'Schöner Wohnen', 'Stern' and 'Bild am Sonntag'. Brüchmann is primarily known for his portraits of celebrities of the movie and music industry. In 2008 the photographer participated in the group exhibition 'Die Erinnerung ist oft das Schönste - Fotografische Porträts von Romy Schneider', an exhibition comprising portraits of the famous Franco-German actress Romy Schneider, held at the Stiftung Opelvillen Rüsselheim, Germany. Today Peter Brüchmann works as a freelance photographer for several national and international magazines.
