Photographer unknown. Photographic reproduction of "Spielkartenharmonika" by Kurt Schwitters. 1919. Vintage gelatin silver print mounted to original cream card (a few light spots). 13 x 10 cm (15,5 x 12,5 cm). Titled, dated and signed by Kurt Schwitters in ink on mount verso: Spielkartenharmonika. 1919. Kurt Schwitters. Hannover.Waldhausenstr. 5, as well as annotated in other hands in pencil and red crayon on the verso. The original "Spielkartenharmonika", also known as Merzbild L 8 (Merzbild mit Spielkarten), is missing and the dimensions of the original assemblage are unknown. The original work was exhibited in 1919 in Herwarth Walden's Gallery DER STURM. This photograph is a rare document and possibly from Schwitter's own collection. - Diagonal crease upper right corner, lower corners slightly bumped and small nick in right edge, otherwise a strong print in very good condition.
