Self-Portrait. 1976. Unique polaroid color print. 11 x 9 cm. Copyrighted, dated and annotated by Martin Kippenberger in ink in lower margin. Dedicated: "Wiss Laf - Eim Wejting". Martin Kippenberger studied at the Hamburg Fine Art Academy (1972 - 1976) where Sigmar Polke, despite not teaching him directly, strongly influenced him. The photograph offered here, was a present to Kippenberger's girlfriend at the time and was taken before he went to Florence after his studies. It bears the personal dedication: "Wiss Laf - Eim Wejting". This photographic object shows that Kippenberger's irrepressible creative drive was even present in his small personal gifts and messages. In 1978 he moved to Berlin where he founded "Kippenberger's Büro" with Gisela Capitain to exhibit young unknown artists. He also became the business director of SO 36, Berlin's famous performance, film and music space. In the 1980s exhibitions in Paris, Darmstadt, Düsseldorf, etc. followed. In 1988 he took part in the Biennale in Venice and in 1997 at the Documenta X in Kassel, where he and his work were classified as part of "Die Neuen Wilden" movement. His early death in 1997 was a result of his excessive lifestyle. - In near excellent condition. Provenance: From the artist to the present owner.
