The theme of this photograph depicts a central motive in the oeuvre of the artist, street photography. In very expressive shadow effects a street boy is sitting in the background, playing an accordion, looking directly into the camera's eye. The main area of the composition is occupied by a passer-by. This silver gelatine print belongs to the volume 'Buenos Aires', Moriyama published in 2005 in an limited edition of 300. The silver gelatine print holds the artist's stamp and numbering 'Daido Moriyama Buenos Aires 055' on the verso. The photograph is in very good condition. The sheet dimensions are 25.2 x 20.2 cm. Daidō Moriyama (born 1938) The Japanese Daidō Moriyama studied photography and design under Takeji Iwamiya in Kōbe, before moving to Tokyo in 1961 to work as an independent photographer. Moriyama is regarded as one of the most influential Japanese photographers of the 20th Century. His works, often depicting the breakdown of traditional values in post-war Japan, have been rewarded with numerous prizes such as the Lifetime Achievement Award of The Photographic Society of Japan, and the prize of the German Society of Photography. His photographs have been on show in international art institutions such as the Tate Modern in London, and at the International Center of Photography in New York.
