MANOUCHER YEKTAI (1922–2019) UNTITLED, OIL ON CANVAS A richly impastoed oil on canvas by Manoucher Yektai, exemplifying the artist’s distinctive fusion of gestural abstraction and expressive figuration. The composition unfolds in a dense orchestration of sweeping vertical strokes and layered colour, dominated by deep greens, turquoise blues, ochres, and flashes of red. The foreground is animated by vigorous, palette-knife applications of paint, forming a field of foliage-like forms rendered with tactile thickness and sculptural presence. Broad, confident strokes build a sense of movement and immediacy, while areas of scraped and dragged pigment reveal underlying layers, heightening depth and complexity. In the upper register, the composition opens into a lighter, sky-toned expanse, contrasting with the energetic density below. Yektai’s signature in red, dated ‘58, anchors the lower corner, situating the work within his mature period, when his exploration of texture and painterly gesture was at its most assured.
