Valencian School. End of XVIII century. "Virgin of Carmen with Baby Jesus". Hand-painted stanniferous earthenware tiles. Measurements: 54,5 x 41 cm, 67,5 x 53 cm (frame). Valencian ceramic panel from the end of the XVIII century, composed of twelve tiles, representing the Virgin of Carmen with Baby Jesus. The Virgin appears crowned, with a nimbus of bursts and stars, holding the scapular and leaning on a cloud, in a centralized composition framed by an ochre border and baroque scrolls in the upper corners. In the lower part there is a simple landscape with rockery and vegetation. Made of stanniferous earthenware painted on cover with metallic oxides, it presents a characteristic palette of ochers, cobalt blues, greens and manganese, and a drawing outlined in dark strokes, with loose brushstrokes and synthetic modeling. Stylistically, it is situated in the transition from late baroque to academicism, within the serialized devotional production of Valencian artists, probably from Manises or Valencia.
