Born in 1950 in St. Pölten, Lower Austria, she studied at the University of Applied Arts Vienna from 1968 to 1973 under Oswald Oberhuber and Wolfgang Hutter. From the 1970s onward, she participated in exhibitions of the Vienna Secession and the Künstlerhaus, taught as a guest lecturer at art schools, and from the 1980s devoted herself to abstract and representational painting with a focus on nature and the human form. Layr created color-intensive acrylic and oil paintings with organic forms, geometric structures, and expressive gestures, influenced by Fantastic Realism and Informal Art. Her themes included body landscapes and cosmic spaces, characterized by impasto layering and dynamic composition.
