C. Reinhart  Portrait of a high-ranking French officer Watercolor and gouache 1806 2 1/4 x 2 3/4 in., framed to 4 3/4 x 5 1/2 in.  Contemporary or near-contemporary wood frame.    A handsome portrait of a high-ranking French officer in full uniform. He is seen wearing a dark embroidered coat with a high red collar and a blue sash draped across his chest. Based on his epaulettes, this man was at least a colonel; there are possibly some shapes that can just be made out on the portrait-right epaulette, so he very well could hold a higher rank. This is further supported by the large Légion d'honneur (Legion of Honor) Grand Cross of the order pinned to his breast.    [Art, Fine Art, Portrait Miniature, Paintings, 19th Century, French Revolution, France, Napoleon]
