Signed and dated lower left E. Garraway 1890 Edward Garraway was a genre painter active in London in the 19th century. The first work attributed to him dates from 1870 and is titled A Bad Start, presumably a portrait of a racehorse, a subject that anticipates his interest in animal painting. He spent the rest of his life working as a professional animal painter. The 1890 work demonstrates a remarkable ability to capture the character, spirit, and charm of his subjects. The rendering is direct and spontaneous, with a focus on the animal's vitality rather than formal virtuosity. Garraway exhibited in London, particularly on Suffolk Street, between 1875 and 1878. Oil on canvas, 41 x 61.5 cm - framed, 60 x 75 cm
