작품 상세

Newton, Harold (1934-1994) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on Canvas board - signed lower left. Executed in full palette knife .Circa 1954–56, a nineteen-to-twenty-one-year-old Harold Newton produced this River Road scene under the early influence of mentor Albert Backus, yet already asserting a distinct voice. Painted amid the pressures of three young children and urgent livelihood, the canvas board captures Indian River light with economical, luminous color: billowing cloudscapes, swaying palms, and vivid red hibiscus punctuating the tropical foreground. Newton’s carved, tactile handling—palette-knife textures and scored grasses—conveys plein-air immediacy and emotional resolve. Early canvas-board works like this are among his most sought after, valued for their rarity, provenance, and the artist's formative inventiveness. Board measures 22x30 framed to overall size of 24x32. Condition: Very Fine
