작품 상세
Newton, Harold (1934-1994) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on Upson - signed lower right. rendered in brush and palette knife. Pre Dawn Crest- breaking-wave scene is a masterclass in chromatic orchestration and compositional restraint. Purple skies and a teal surge collide above a vividly hued surf, the cresting wave rendered with tactile brushwork that balances immediacy and control. A sandbar is positioned with deliberate economy in the negative space, its abrupt edge feeling almost excised from the picture plane and intensifying the scene’s spatial tension. Light and color govern mood and temporality, while rhythmic diagonals of wave and shore guide the eye. The near-exact echo of the Backus center-spread in "Tropical Lights" by Natasha Kuzmanovic strengthens the argument that Newton absorbed Backus's methods directly, suggesting apprenticeship rather than mere influence. Board measures 24x48 framed to overall size of 32x56. Condition: Very Fine
