작품 상세

Newton, Harold (1934-1994) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on Upson - signed lower right. Executed in full palette knife upon a brushwork sky. At circa 1954–56, a nineteen-to-twenty-one-year-old Harold Newton channels early lessons from mentor Albert Backus into a concentrated backwater study. The canvas brims with intense saturation: tropical flora frames the composition while vivid marsh grasses animate the foreground. A deep blue sky crowns thunderhead white clouds, lending dramatic light; the scene teems with flora and fauna yet retains an assured depth-of-field perspective. This early work exemplifies Newton’s emerging voice within the Highwaymen tradition. Board measures 24x30 framed to overall size of 30x36. Condition: Very Fine
