Rise Delmar-Ochsner American/Louisiana, 1944-2025 "Expansive Landscape with River" acrylic on gallery-wrapped canvas 2006, signed and dated lower right, unframed. Note: Rise Delmar-Ochsner was born and raised in New York City where her mother was an artist. She graduated from Columbia University and later attended Tulane Medical School as one of only a handful of women accepted under the ten percent quota of the time. Delmar-Ochsner discovered her own love of art while at Columbia and continued to paint through medical school and beyond. In New Orleans, she maintained a thriving ophthalmology practice until deciding to pursue art full-time. She relocated to Santa Barbara, California in 1995 and created an impressive body of work. However, missing medicine, she returned to practice in 2007. After nineteen years away, Delmar-Ochsner moved back to New Orleans in 2014 where she lived until her death in 2025. An in-demand portraitist, Delmar-Ochsner earned commissions to paint Mick Jagger for a poster for his New Orleans tour stop, Carol Burnett's cat and fifty famous chefs including Leah Chase, Emeril Lagasse and Susan Spicer on behalf of Robert and Margrit Mondavi, all winners of the Robert Mondavi Culinary Award of Excellence. Her works were featured in numerous exhibitions locally and nationally. While known primarily as a figurative painter, Delmar-Ochsner's expressive, colorful style translates beautifully to expansive landscapes such as the monumental work offered here. The bird's eye view of rolling hills and fields intersected by a river and curving roadways encompasses the viewer in a verdant, lush and lyrical panorama.
