Jeno Gabor (1893 - 1968), untitled lady in the city. Signed in LR corner. Oil on canvas. Hungary, early to mid 20th century. Gábor studied under Tivadar Zemplényi from 1911 to 1915 at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts. In 1919 he moved back to Pécs, his hometown, where he met the new spirit of avant-garde art. He worked as an art teacher in Pécs, and in the 1940s in Szeged. During the 1920s he maintained connections with Alfréd Forbát, Marcell Breuer and Farkas Molnár, the artists working in the Bauhaus of Pécs. He went on study tours, two to Paris in 1926 and 1937 and one to Berlin in 1931. In 1947 he moved to Budapest and in 1966 returned to his hometown. Framed: H 29-1/2 in. W 24 in. Sight: H 24 in.
