Born south-west of Billiluna near Sturt Creek, he was one of a small number of artists who came from the transition zone between the desert and river country on Tjaru land. In this region, the landscape shifts from flat, featureless spinifex plains to floodplains marked by expansive river channels and permanent waterholes. Milner's paintings differ markedly from the conventional Balgo aesthetic. His works capture the cyclical rhythms of flood and dry seasons, evoking the swamps and wetlands teeming with birdlife through which Purkitji (Sturt Creek) flows. In this painting, Milner depicts his country along the middle stretches of Purkitji, north of Balgo. A man of deep knowledge, he understood every aspect of this landscape and the seasonal transformations it undergoes. The painting portrays the river and its many interconnected tributaries, along with the surrounding terrain. © BOXER MILNER   TJAMPITJIN / Copyright Agency, 2025
