Attilio Pratella, Lugo 1856 - Napoli 1949 (Lugo 1856 - Naples 1949) - Attilio Pratella was born in Lugo di Romagna on April 19, 1856. He studied drawing with painter Ippolito Bonaveri and in 1876 changed his surname from Pratelli to Pratella, like his brother Francesco. Thanks to a scholarship, he attended the Accademia di Belle Arti in Bologna (1877-78) and then Naples, where he studied under Filippo Palizzi and met artists such as Renzo Corcos and Vincenzo Migliaro.He exhibited for the first time in 1881 at the Promotrice Salvator Rosa in Naples. To support himself, he painted views and popular scenes for Giuseppe Massa's workshop, which pleased entrepreneur Luigi Caflisch. He also collaborated with antiquarian Charles Varelli and worked as a ceramic decorator for Cesare Cacciapuoti. He illustrated works for writer Gaetano Miranda and participated in various national and international exhibitions, gaining prestige with works such as "Lavandaie al fiume" and "Sul molo".In 1887, he married Annunziata Belmonte and moved to Vomero, Naples, producing landscapes that reflected a tonal finesse similar to that of Giuseppe De Nittis. He participated in numerous exhibitions, such as the Venice Biennale and the International Exhibition in Buenos Aires, where he presented works that explored atmospheric and tonal themes.Despite financial difficulties, he continued to exhibit and received recognition, such as being appointed honorary professor of the Naples Academy in 1902. He collaborated on illustrations for Giovanni Pascoli's "Myricae" and participated in exhibitions until the 1930s.
