Luigi Bocca, Vigevano (PV) 1872 - 1930 (Vigevano (PV) 1872 - 1930) - Luigi Bocca was born in April 1872 in Vigevano, in the province of Pavia, into a family of modest economic circumstances. From a young age he cultivated a passion for the visual arts, studying at the Roncalli Foundation School of Drawing and Decoration under Gian Battista Garberini. Thanks to the support of a scholarship established by Domenico Pisani, he moved to Milan to continue his education at the Brera Academy, where he deepened his artistic knowledge under the direction of masters such as Giuseppe Bertini, Raffaele Casnedi and Giuseppe Mentessi.In 1898, upon his return to Vigevano, Bocca presented the painting Per tua dote at the National Academy of Turin, which was purchased for 2,500 liras, an achievement that highlighted his growing fame. Later, he undertook a trip to Rome and Sicily with his painter friend Emilio Galli, during which he engaged in decorative activities. He also participated in the Fourth Milan Triennale in 1900, further consolidating his career.In the following years, Bocca moved to Chiavari, where for about ten years he devoted himself to the decoration of churches and villas, producing works that reflected his sensitivity to Ligurian landscapes, such as Scorcio di paese. Returning to Vigevano, he married Caterina Pensa and joined a group of local artists, including Vincenzo Boniforti, Casimiro Ottone, and Ambrogio Raffele.In 2016, the Pinacoteca Civica "Casimiro Ottone" in Vigevano dedicated a retrospective exhibition to him, entitled Family Portraits, which highlighted the artist's ties with his family circle.
