Giuseppe Palizzi, Lanciano (CH) 1812 - Parigi 1888 (Lanciano (CH) 1812 - Paris 1888) - Giuseppe Palizzi was born in Lanciano (Chieti) on March 19, 1812, the son of Antonio, a lawyer and teacher of literature and philosophy, and Doralice Del Greco, a cultured woman particularly devoted to music. The second son of a large family, he was part of a dynasty of artists that included his brothers Filippo, Nicola and Francesco Paolo, also prominent painters. The city of Lanciano still preserves his birthplace, located in the Borgo district on Via dei Tribunali .In 1835, Palizzi moved to Naples to enroll in the Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied with Anton Sminck van Pitloo and later with Gabriele Smargiassi. He came into contact with the painters of the Posillipo School and participated in the Bourbon biennial exhibitions, presenting historical landscapes. However, difficult relations with academia led him to leave Italy in 1844 .He settled in Paris, where he came into contact with members of the Barbizon School and became one of the first Italian artists to paint in the Forest of Fontainebleau. He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salons and participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1855. In 1859 he was awarded the title of Knight of the Legion of Honor, and in 1862 he received the Cross of the Order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus .Palizzi settled in the village of Bourron-Marlotte, on the edge of the forest of Fontainebleau, where he acquired an atelier for his brother Filippo in Grez-sur-Loing. With the approval of the forest administration, he built another atelier in the forest, near the Gorge aux Loups, which he often shared with his brothers.
