Magda Kröner (1854 Rendsburg - 1935 Düsseldorf) Peonies, gouache on paper or firm cardboard, 46 cm x 19 cm, visible dimensions, signed, dated 1909, Düsseldorf localized, minimal staining in places, very small tears and flaking. Magda Kröner was a studio student at the Düsseldorf School of Painting, which denied her regular admission. She played a central role in several important art associations, including the Verein Düsseldorfer Künstlerinnen, of which she was later made an honorary member. Around the turn of the century, she reached the peak of her artistic career and public recognition, with Kaiser Wilhelm II acquiring several of her paintings. In 1929 - on her 75th birthday - the Düsseldorf Kunsthalle honoured Kröner with an outstanding special exhibition that paid tribute to her artistic legacy.
