Marc Hanson (American b. 1955) Oil on Linen Painting of Egrets in a Marsh. Signed lower right. The son of a career Air Force officer, Marc Hanson became a wildlife artist who settled in Minnesota because it was the favorite place he lived when moving around as a child.  He studied for five semesters at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California, and then returned to Wabasha, Minnesota where his grandparents had lived.  There he met his wife, Anne. Hanson experimented with watercolor and oil paint and decided his favorite was oil medium, which he used with his wild-fowl subjects.  His style went from photo realism to painterly realism, and he became a plein-air painter of landscapes. One of his most encouraging teachers and long-time friends was Bill Webster, founder of Wild Wings. He also credits workshops with Richard Schmid and Zhang Wen Xin as influences on his work. Marc Hanson has won several awards in the Pastel Journal's 'Pastel 100' competition and in 2001 he became a signature member of the oil Painter's of America. Overall Size: 15 1/2 x 12 1/2 in.
