Frank Moss Bennett (British, 1874 - 1952), "After the Card Game," oil on canvas, signed lower left, envelope mounted verso with further information, measures 16 x 20 inches unframed, 23 x 27 inches framed. CONDITION: Good, restored condition, from the estate of Museum benefactor, Mary H. Hodges. Bennett studied at The Slade School of Art, the St. Johns Wood School of Art to further his studies and the Royal Academy School of Art. Originally, he specialized in portrait painting. He then extended his works to genre paintings (many set in the Elizabethan period), these were to be the works that he is most remembered for, both commercially and privately. His watercolor paintings were also much sought after and he gave several exhibitions of them throughout England. From 1912 forward he also exhibited at The Paris Salon.
