BIOGRAPHY: Born rue Saint-Antoine in Paris, Auguste Marie Boulard became a pupil of Leon Cogniet in 1841 for three years, before settling in 1843 in Antwerp, where he had family, lived in Groenplaats, executed seascapes and scenes there. Peaches and copies in churches and museums by Flemish masters, including Rubens and Antoine van Dyck.Returning to Paris and residing again in the Marais district, he frequented the sculptor Geoffroy-Dechaume, the painters Jean-Francois Millet, Eugene Delacroix and the poet Charles Baudelaire. He joined the group on Ile Saint-Louis, living at 13, quai d'Anjou, and gave painting lessons, among others Louis Lemaire.Boulard began at the Salon in 1847 with a portrait 5 and regularly sent genre scenes, still lifes, landscapes, seascapes, interior scenes and portraits there, until 1868; on this date, its address is at 16, quai d'Anjou 6 .In 1856, he lived part of the year in Champagne-sur-Oise where he bought a small house-workshop, and met Jules Dupre who became his real master 7; this brought him into the L'Isle-Adam group which brought together Charles-Francois Daubigny, Honore Daumier, Theodore Rousseau and Camille Corot.
