CHARLES CHRISTIAN EISELE (Utah/Oregon/Germany, 1854-1919) oil on canvas, "Evening, Muir Glacier, Alaska." The glacier was named after naturalist John Muir who visited in 1879 and 1880. Since that time the glacier has retreated more than 20 miles. Signed lower left, titled verso, 30" x 50" (image), in a gilt wood and gesso frame 37.75" x 57.75" (frame).
